Personality/Looks:
competitive, fi can't miss out on a challenge or dare. she loves the feeling of winning and being right, though when she doesn’t tries to put on a front of not being bothered. she is fiery although fivel isn't ‘out there’ too much and doesn't thrust herself into the spotlight. she is more of an onlooker than an attention seeker; usually disliking anyone that always wants the spotlight on them or those that think they are the center of attention. when you befriend fivel you see what she is like behind the caustic wall she built; a strong willed, whole hearted nature and winsome behavior. fivel can be boisterous at times and puts her energy into sports like quidditch. she has a brave streak to her and a lot of pride for her house, doing whatever she can to protect those within it. she will listen to what you have to say and do as much as she can to help. but just make sure you don't break that trust otherwise she will not forgive you.
fivel has never really been the happy-go-lucky type. fivel can be very fiery at times when rubbed the wrong way or given a bad look. she's never been the optimist and lives for the moment rather than worrying about the future. fivel is a character that will give it to you straight, speak her thoughts and be blunt. she sometimes lets her tongue work a little too fast for others to keep up. fivel usually looks at things two ways -- looks over them or goes into detail about it. things are rarely done in half's with fivel; for example if she feels strongly against something she will speak her mind and not give up until she has finished. with a temper like a short fused bomb, fivel can take things into extremes; so if someone becomes an enemy, they're in for a full blown death match.
slightly academic, fivel has a knack for potions. she finds it a wholey interesting subject and wouldn't mind persuing a career out of it - perhaps a potioneer to create tonics and other substances for healer to use on patients. fivel has a few quirks; openly outspoken and uses her hands often to express herself. you'd recognize whenever she feels negitavlyaboutsoemthing as she usually sets her mouth and looks around sharply when annoyed.
History:
fivel noelani was the only child of tatiana benson and anthony riccards. tatiana was a half-blood witch while anthony was a muggle. he never knew of his girlfriends 'powers' so to speak, therefore was unaware of the magical blood their child would inherit. they weren't a married couple, their relationship only really starting a couple of months before tatiana fell pregnant with fivel. it had been unexpected, but they were prepared to take on the responsibility of a child even though they were so young (both nineteen). they were ready to become a family, tataiana was almost ready to tell him she was a witch, anthony was ready to finally propose and ready to bring up their baby into a loving home. however fate had other plans. on the twenty-fourth of november, one bitterly cold night, fivel noelani was bought into the world. she was a healthy baby, however there were complications with the mother at the time of the birth. tatiana passed away a couple of hours after fivel had been born. anthony was devastated; his love taken from him too soon however he was given someone else to look after in return. but anthony couldn't do it; terrified because he couldn't feel he could cope with bringing up a baby on his own. anthony felt there was no other way but to give fivel to an orphanage and just hope she'd find a good family.
being just a week old when she was taken to the orphanage by her father who was known to them as 'a john doe' with no name given or any details. the only other thing he gave to the nurses was a piece of parchment telling them her name was 'fivel'. growing up in the orphanage, fivel remembered much about the place, knowing it would always stay in her mind. the pale yellow walls of her room. scratched wooden floorboards that would give you splinters if you ran too fast within the corridors and fell over. the smell of the early morning dew wafting up through the open windows during autumn-winter time. the first orphanage fivel lived at was a muggle place; however as soon as her powers began to show, she was taken by nurses from a special wizarding facility. the new orphanage was specifically for wizarding children and muggles that didn't have wizard blood running through them, and also half-bloods, much like fivel. during her years at the orphanage she was always a little more mature than the other childen, talking to the nurses and asking them questions about anything and everything thus gaining knowledge from them. she was known to the nurses to be a petulant little thing at times, intelligent but often not for her own good but funny in her own way.
fivel was nine when she was adopted. at first, quite naturally, she was reluctant to go with these new people. she hadn't met them until the day they came to pick her up and her 'signature' blank stare of stubborn coldness was etched clearly on her face. she didn't cry or throw a tantrum about it, she never really had any childish fits - and went with them quietly, never saying a word apart from when she was directly spoken to. her 'new' parents georgina and joshua vanderholt were, well, strange at first, at least thats how fi saw them. they were rarely angry, usually smiling and never failed to try and cheer fivel up even though she had a sour attitude for a while. fivel felt lost and almost like an outcast, despite her new parents attempts to make her warm to them. it wasn't until around a good few weeks later that the moment of happiness and idea she was settling really took over. and it had only been a couple of words that broke her out of her bitter bindings; when her foster father spoke abruptly one summers evening, 'lets go on a family picnic'. as simple as they were, for some reason they made fivel understand that this was it; this is her family now and she actually belongs.
on her first day at hogwarts - for fivel had learned a lot about hogwarts back when she was at the orphanage - fivel had stuck to herself, not really feeling able to talk to anyone else. she wasn't scared because being surrounded by people her own age with similar powers had never been a foreign thing to her - in fact, there were one or two faces back from the orphanage that she knew. when it was time for fivel to be sorted, , the hat heavily debated on ravenclaw or gryffindor (ravenclaw because fivel was quite intellectual in her own way, while gryffindor for her natural loyal, courageous and slightly petulant attitude), but it was finally chosen that gryffindor was the place for her. fivel found she could get along quite well will those from her house, sometimes those from others but had a distaste for slytherins - not hating them but finding something particularly irksome about them as they seemed to hate her for her blood status.
