In Character:
Name: Ardin Crabbe
Nickname: Crabbe, sr... by people who know his son, probably.
Age: Forty-three
Alliance: Death Eaters
Blood Status: Pureblood
House: Former Slytherin
Likes: The idea of power (that comes easily), fine food and drink, intimidating co-workers, jokes (especially at the expense of someone else), being married AND having servants so that he doesn't have to do anything on his own, staying at home, clothes that make him look like he put more time into his appearance than he did.
Dislikes: Ballroom dancing, organized dinners, animals, people who feel the need to tell everyone they meet their life stories, the usual pureblood maniac's enemies, being blamed for things that he didn't (or did) do, annoying sounds in repetition, being the butt of a joke, housework, children, optimists.
Fears: Getting on the Dark Lord's bad side (again), books that look like they will be challenging AND extremely long, losing the rest of his influence, his son doing something to displease Voldemort, Voldemort himself, being humiliated in front of a large group.
Goals: Staying on the Dark Lord's good side, marrying his son to a rich heiress (reach for the stars!), achieving a career position that would enable him to expand his house, become famous through something (without having to do much), and... escape Azkaban in order to do pretty much any of this!
Strengths: Physically intimidating and powerful, isn't as much of a follower as his son is, used to be a fair quidditch player.
Weaknesses: Prone to common illnesses like colds, also prone to injuring himself accidentally.
Personality:
A man lacking in tact and who has trouble in watching his manners. Thankfully for him, manners come as second nature when the Dark Lord is around primarily out of fear rather than respect. He isn't the smartest of people at all, but when something will serve him, he can be crafty. He has a dark sense of humor usually directed at the undesirable sort unless he has a friend that doesn't mind an exchange in insults. He isn't that much of a family man though he cares about his son in his own way. In his youth he was probably the sort of ordinary teen boy whose greatest ambition was finding his way to the girls' dorm without being injured or caught.
Looks:
Used to be a bigger guy but Azkaban does funny things to a person. Generally has a pretty unpleasant expression on his face, even if he is smiling. His looks serve to make him look more cunning than he really is. Hasn't quite gotten over the tough persona that he created when he was younger. Dark hair and light eyes.
History:
From a pureblooded family, it comes as no surprise that he was sorted into Slytherin house while attending Hogwarts. He had been raised with the same ideals that most of the Slytherins were, but something new was a sense of unity among people near his own age. He enjoyed also the house system that told him exactly who he should victimize and who he should look up to. He did get into a few awkward situations through a perverted nature and dark sense of humor, but the bonds that he made early on protected him.
He married almost directly after school due to an arranged marriage his family had planned out for him. Joining the Death Eaters later on was never a doubt once people he knew did so. It didn't hurt that Crabbe looked up to people like Lucius Malfoy, who were more capable of finding their place in the world. Becoming a follower was, in his eyes, the quickest way to rise to the top. The idea that maybe it would only cement his dependency didn't occur to him. And also, he didn't care as much about his wife's safety because she had put an end to his free days and he hadn't gotten the time to really get to know her anyway.
Crabbe likely never stood out in the early years of the Death Eaters, but was still loyal. When Voldemort fell he was forced to find his own way in life... supposedly. After getting his name cleared he got a low-level job at the Ministry through his contacts. Luckily for him, a small fortune had been left from his father anyway. And once the distraction of pureblood mania was out of the way, he also spent more time with his baby son Vincent and came to finally accept the family life.
After living a relatively quiet and boring life hardly resembling his former one, Crabbe came to the graveyard when summoned. The experience and the realization of how lucky he was to get out of the graveyard alive after not seeking out Voldemort caused him to rethink his current situation, and he reverted to his old ways. He also participated in the battle at the Department of Mysteries, and was arrested directly after. His time in Azkaban gnawed at his mind, and drove him to darker depths than ever before. He emerged recently from the Azkaban break-out with a more sadistic, selfish perspective than before. Good going, good guys!
