Lindsey ran up the steps two at a time despite her school robes, irritating things that they were. The Grey Lady had just turned up this way and she hoped the head the ghost off -- it was hard to corner a ghost indeed and this one was difficult to talk to begin with. When she reached the top she turned and sprinted to the corner only to realize the ghost had fooled her and changed angles somewhere in the wall. Frustrated and knowing she wouldn't be able to catch her now, Lindsey smacked the flat of her palm against the stone wall, a clear loud sound which could be heard probably all the way down the stairs.
It was near curfew on their second full day and she was on patrol, an annoying thing really, but a chance to catch stuff happening and thus well worth the time. Her lit wand showed the clock tower clearly as she turned and took a step back towards the stairs, thinking. Her hands were tired of writing; first the notes from Snape, then all the owls she had been sending during the day, and then in addition an entire pile of notes in classes. At least she had done most of her own private research already thank Merlin. It had been rather amusing, separating out the students for Snape and enjoying the panic in their faces as they realized they had no time to get with the others first before seeing the Headmaster.
That part had been well worth it indeed. Almost as good as going around the dorm and checking the students in their dorms (the boys being the most disturbed and interested about this mind you) to give them Snape's orders (mind you she caught those in the seventh year separately) and make it clear she was their contact, not Draco. She wanted no slip-ups and since it was her assignment, that was all there was to it. Whatever mess he was off doing, he wasn't going to interfere with her own work, even if she was curious as to what the swaggering stuffed shirt was up to.

Draco was doing his duty as head boy...ok to rephrase that so it would be more accurate, Draco was strutting around the castle, keeping an eye on things and scaring first years. Granted, it wasn't as fun as it had been and what with everything going on and having, you know, the dark lord himself living at his house, he was just a touch distracted. But that didn't stop him from taking twenty points from hufflepuff because two second years were out past curfew. He turned a deaf ear on their pleas that they were trying to get back to their common room and had gotten lost because they had to take a different route since Peeves was blocking the one they normally took.
Smiling to himself after he sent them away, he continued on his stroll. School was nicer this year with Potter, Granger and Weasley not around to steal all the spotlight. Granted the girl Weasley, along with Longbottom and Lovegood were apparently stepping up into those shoes but they were dealt with easily enough.
Just up ahead he thought he saw more movement, so he sped towards it, coming to a halt when he saw who it was. "Oh." His smile deflated into a bored expression. "It's you."

When Draco spoke, she was a bit annoyed at his words. "Excuse me?" Turning her head in his direction she glared at him. "Well I know why you don't have girlfriends then after that statement." She mimicked his voice of bored non-interest. "Oh...it's you." Glancing around to be clear there was no one else around ghost or otherwise, Lin thought it was odd to find Draco by himself for once and not hanging out with someone. "Girls like to be noticed more then that even if they aren't interested in the slightest."
Lindsey had never been interested in Draco; it was clear he was a controller and she couldn't risk those at all. "What are skulking around up here for? You spot a bunch of kids hiding or something or do you enjoy towers for some reason?" Rumor had it Draco had been on the Tower top for Dumbledore's death, but he never spoke about it. Different tower if she remembered right, but still a touch of curiosity was in her mind.

Draco sniffed haughtily. "Why make an attempt to notice someone you have no interest in yourself?" He maybe would have been nicer to her but her comment about her not being interested in him stung a little so he shot back the first stinging comment he could think of but whether or not it actually offended her or not was lost on him due to her next comment.
"What are skulking around up here for? You spot a bunch of kids hiding or something or do you enjoy towers for some reason?"
"...do you enjoy towers for some reason?" "...do you enjoy towers for some reason?"...
The question rang around inside his head for some time, making his knees feel a bit like rubber and the inside of his mouth scratchy like it was coated with sandpaper. The tower around him seemed to be shrinking and flipping upside down simeoltaniously. He could still see the former headmaster falling over the edge of the tower, his arms outstretched like he was simply going to fly away instead of hit the pavement several stories below. Hard. Of course he wouldn't have felt it...being dead already...thanks to the current headmaster...Draco felt the first warning signs of tears starting to overcome him so he turned to stare out the window and let the night air blow some sense back into him.
When he trusted himself to speak normally again, he fixed his cold grey eyes on her. "There were some lost hufflepuffs headed this way but I stopped them, took the required points away and sent them in the right direction. Not that it's any of your business what I do with my time."

Lindsey's eyes danced with mirth as he attempted to spike the ball back at her. If she wasn't interested in him why would that hurt? No, Draco was...messed up as far as she could see, made into some strutting peacock by his father. For some reason he was convinced in his own importance. She sneered back, clearly not offended "Oh because unlike boys, girls tell each other about stuff. So you treat one nasty and the others avoid you more. And if your father ever wants to be a grandfather, his son has to learn some manners first, I think."
She laughed soft and low, but clear enough. Oh yes, the girls in the dorm had discussed the way Draco acted and few indeed wanted to be 'possessed' as it was clear he would treat them; girls had pride just as much as the boys did and there were none in their year who were submissive types. If he hadn't figured out that much then it was clear he wasn't interested in girls that much. The idea of him with Crabbe and Goyle however seemed ludicrous. Draco abruptly turned away and she wondered what was up with him this year; apparently being on the side of right didn't make his life easier.
Poor baby.
Which was, of course, what most of the girls thought of him, a baby making demands. Since he clearly was so much like his father he had yet to prove he was a real man. "It's my business to ask when I find you up here instead of in the corridors. Just as you would be in the right to ask me why I was hiding in a closet with a boy during duty time...although you can probably guess that one." Now her laughter was more cheerful and she turned to go back down the stairs. "But since you have flushed all the bad kids out of the tower, I guess I wil go check elsewhere. Unless you have anything to tell me."
