Upon realizing Harry was all right, Ginny burst into tears. She looked at the basalisk, and then to the diary. "Harry! Oh Harry...I tried to tell you at the breakfast, but I c-couldn't say it in front of Percy. It was me, Harry, but I s-swear I d-didn't mean to. R-riddle made me, he..t-took me over and...h-how did you kill that thing? W-where's Riddle? The last thing I remember was him coming out of the diary."
Harry tried to comfort her, but all she could think was "I'm going to be expelled", she sniffed. "I've looked forward to coming to Hogwarts ever since B-Bill came, and now I'll have to leave, and wh-what'll mum and dad say?"

(So I have no idea the exact thing that happens next in the book but I remember the gist lol) Harry was a little startled when she began crying and no matter what he said, she continued to sob, talking about how her parents would react and probably thinking that she was going to be expelled. Harry had the same concerns...well on the expulsion front...as he and Ron had already been warned that year about breaking rules and he was fairly certain that breaking into the chamber of secrets broke about a dozen school rules in and of itself.
But he put his own thoughts aside and got to his feet, then offered his hand to help Ginny up. They could worry about expulsion and consequences later. First they had to get out of there.

Ginny calmed enough to take Harry's hand and stand up. Later, she would remember this as the first time Harry had held her hand, but for the moment there were more important things. What seemed like moments later they were all standing in Dumbledore's office, there was a moment of utter silence broken by her mum as she was swept away into Molly's embrace.
She barely heard Harry's explanations, so enraptured was she to be safe, and held protectively in the arms of her mother.

Fawkes, Harry, Ginny, Lockhart and Ron entered Dumbledore's office. If the situation hadn't been so stressful (for the Weasley's were there thinking their daughter was dead), they probably would have been a comical sight. Lockhart was staring around absently and twirling locks of his dishevled blond hair around his fingers like a teenage girl; Ron was covered in dust and debris from spending that long time shifting rocks in the passage, Ginny was covered in water from lying on the wet stone floor for so long, and then there was Harry. He was covered from head to foot in a mixture of sweat, blood, slime, and dirt...oh and he was carrying a mutilated diary and bloody sword.
Fawkes flew by them all and landed on his perch, looking quite exhausted. Dumbledore gave his beloved pet a stroke and then turned his electric blue gaze on Harry who immediately began explaining. When he got to the part about the diary, Mr. Weasley interrupted.

Twelve year old Ginny Weasley padded softly through the hospital wing, the whole of Gryffindor had been disappointed when their seeker fell of his broom, but no one was angry with Harry. Gifts poured into his room daily, and that was why Ginny was there.
She clutched the card tightly in her left hand, she'd made it herself, charming it to sing cheerfully when opened. Something had gone a bit wrong though, and the voice was higher than it should have been. Ginny had brought it anyway though, hopefully Harry would think it was sweet.
She smiled at the thought as she turned into his room. "H-hello H-Harry", she said softly, cursing the way she stuttered. "I b-brought you something."

Harry's whole body hurt. That tends to happen when you fall over fifty feet from your broom and hit the ground hard due to the presence of creepy dementors. Though he had to admit he wasn't in as much pain as when he had landed in the hospital wing after a quidditch match last year when he had had all the bones in his arm removed by the idiot Lockhart.
All day long people had been coming in to see how he was doing and telling him that they didn't blame him for the loss of the quidditch match, which still gnawed at Harry, but not as much as losing his broomstick did.
It was of the nimbus 2000 that he was thinking when yet another visitor appeared, clutching something. "Oh, hey Ginny." He struggled into a sitting position, trying not to put any pressure on his guaze wrapped wrist. "Thanks." He smiled and held out his good hand to take it from her.

Ginny hesitated, maybe the card had been a stupid idea after all. With a sinking feeling, Ginny handed the homemade card to Harry, blushing to the roots of her flaming hair. She fidgeted nervously, on the verge of apologizing. "I th-thought it might m-make you feel better", she managed.
Ginny's eyes were glued decidedly to the floor the moment the card left her hand.

Harry opened the card and had to fight extremely hard against his initial instincts to drop it and cover his ears with both hands. The high pitched voice was just a little irritating to his already pounding headache, but Ginny had worked hard on it so he waited until the serenade was done...much to the annoyance of his hospital mates...and then closed it and set it aside with his other gifts. He gave Ginny a genuine smile. "Thank you Ginny. That was really nice of you."

Ginny grinned hugely, he liked it! But, then she glanced around, and the dirty looks of the other patients told her he was probably just being nice. Her face reddened, and she stuttered. "I'm g-glad you liked it, I m-made it myself" she managed. "Couldn't get the ch-charm quite right, I guess."
She fumbled with her scarf, unsure what to do next. She wanted to make a run for the door, but didn't want to be rude to an injured Harry.

Harry saw how uncomfortable she was but he was at a loss as to what to do or say. If he told her it was ok for her to leave, she might take it the wrong way and think he wanted her to leave. But if he ignored the awkward tension between them, it would appear like he wasn't observant and didn't care enough about her to notice her discomfort. And he did care about her. As a very good friend.
So he sat there, just kind of staring around the hospital wing like it might give him help.

Ginny took a breath, if he cared enough to be kind about it, embarrassing or not, that was something. She smiled, and for the first time managed to speak without stuttering. "I hope you get better, Harry, the Gryffindor team can't go without a seeker." Her confidence spent, she made an excuse about potions homework, and, with another smile at Harry, left the room.
