OOC: So I'm bored and doing a long post with just myself for entertainment. Feel free to read it but no posts
It was hot. Hot and humid. Harry pressed his face to the cold panes of his bedroom window, inhaling deeply at the immensly wonderful feel against his sticky skin. His glasses slipped a bit but he didn't mind. He stayed like that until the last of the chiliness had left and then he straightened up and fixed his glasses as well. It was only a week or so into the summer holiday but it had been the longest week of his life. Moody wasn't coming to get him by side along apparation until the week before his 17th birthday, which was just over a month away. It seemed to Harry as though it would never arrive. He couldn't wait until he got to the Burrow and could talk to the other members of the Order...although he wasn't sure what they would talk about. He didn't want to talk about Dumbledore or his death, and he couldn't talk about what he, Ron, and Hermione would be doing instead of returning to school. Still, anything was better than here.
There was the sound of the doorbell but Harry made no move to see who it was. It was most likely one of his uncle's business collegues or his aunt's book club members or even one of Dudley's huge bully friends. So it was a surprise to Harry a few seconds later to hear his uncle bellow "BOY!"
Harry got to his feet slowly and trundled downstairs, only to look up at the last second and see who had come to visit, which caused him to step down on the last step funny, and trip, stumbling right into the first of the two visitors.
"Good to see you too Harry" Mr. Weasley smiled fondly, no doubt interpretting the clumsy act as a greeting.
Harry rubbed his ankle with a wince. "Thanks Mr. Weasley. Hi Kingsley." He nodded subtly to the second visitor.
"Hello Harry...we would actually love to speak to your aunt and uncle" Kingsley replied in his typical calm voice which caused Vernon, who had been trying to sneak away, to skid to a halt and look about warily.
"I...are you sure?" Harry gave them both a bewildered look.
Mr. Weasley gave a short laugh at the expression. "Yes Harry we're sure. We need to explain the plan to them...as I'm sure you might have er...forgotten to."
Harry gave a sheepish shrug.
Mr. Weasley gave a curt nod in response and followed Kingsley and Vernon into the spacious living room where Petunia and Dudley were waiting apprehensively.
Harry waited for a moment and then decided to take pity on Kingsley and Mr. Weasley and not leave them alone with his relatives, so he slipped unnoticed into the room and tried to blend into the shadows to observe.
"Where to begin" Mr. Weasley was muttering. "This is difficult...well, I suppose I should start with informing you that the headmaster of Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore...well, he's dead."
Harry's shoulders stiffened. His aunt and uncle exchanged looks. Dudley stared straight ahead.
Kingsley picked up the story as Mr. Weasley had subsided into silence, wringing out his hands. "What we have come here today to explain is that you must be protected."
Vernon spoke for the first time since he had ordered Harry downstairs. "Protected? From what?!"
Kingsley hesitated for a moment but then continued as though he was discussing the weather forcast. "Voldemort." He ignored Mr. Weasley's strangled gasp but it didn't go unnoticed by Vernon or Petunia who looked his way for the first time since the two wizards arrived on the front stoop. Kingsley frowned grimly. "He is a very powerful dark wizard and you are in danger. We have two capable wizards who are willing to be your protectors and take you far away."
"Why are we in danger" spluttered Vernon, looking utterly perplexed by the whole thing. "This Vol thing...he's a dark wizard you said. Why would he care about us?"
Mr. Weasley and Kingsley both automatically glanced Harry's way without really meaning to. It was subtle and the moment was over just as quickly as it occurred but it hadn't gone unnoticed.
Vernon rounded on his nephew as well. "Why did I know you would have something to do with this boy?"
For the first time, Mr. Weasley looked angry. "Mr. Dursley" he began harshly. "The why doesn't matter. What does matter is that you, your wife, and your son come the second to last week of july will be in life threatening danger. We are willing to help you. If I were you I would take less time trying to place blame and more time accepting our generous offer."
Vernon looked apalled at Mr. Weasley's semi-outburst but couldn't think of a thing to retort with as he struggled with speech for well over a minute before plopping himself down into an armchair and saying nothing.
Petunia spoke for the first time since the arrival of the guests. When she did, it was in a timid, barely audible voice. "Perhaps we should accept the help Vernon."
"Fine" Vernon snapped defeated, waving his hand dismissively and leaving the room. Petunia and Dudley followed quickly.
"Harry, we're sorry. We didn't mean to"- Mr. Weasley began earnestly.
Harry waved it off. "Don't worry about it. Thank you for talking to them about the plan. Now I can go on ignoring them until Moody comes for me and Hestia and Dedulus come for them." He walked Mr. Weasley and Kingsley down the granite driveway and watched until they had rounded the corner. The faintest of pops alerted him to the fact that they had disapperated and so with this in mind, he turned and retreated to the solidity of his room.
