Shalie nodded. “Yeah, Draco had an air of importance about him so I decided to take my chances and ask. Death Eaters, they're pretty predictable, aren't they? Apparently they're changing Defense Against the Dark Arts to just Dark Arts.” She shook her head, honestly thinking it was a bit silly. It would get dangerous actually being there but following her time in Diagon Alley she'd thought more about it and could only find herself amused. Was that normal? Probably not... Then again, her mind had been far from it's ordinary state. “I wonder how well Blaise and Draco will handle it in reality. They won't be free to do whatever they want with the Death Eaters monitoring, even if the spotlight's not on them.” [/blockquote]

Defense against the dark arts had always been Harry's best and favorite subject, despite the variety of teachers that had been paraded through and it sadened him greatly to hear that it was being changed around to suit the death eaters' evil, twisted minds. He sighed heavily. "Did they say anything about the new headmaster?" He wasn't looking at Shalie as he asked this, due to the fact that he was trying to keep himself composed while thinking about the school's old headmaster whom he missed very much. Instead he stared at the ground between his legs, adopting the pose of someone who was trying to keep from getting sick.

Shalie hesitated when Harry asked about the headmaster position. She knew now, but she didn't think that it was something she should talk about so freely, especially since she didn't know if Malfoy was telling the truth. Or if he was even right, because it wasn't an official thing yet. “Well, there are theories about it,” she said, deciding that it wasn't telling a lie to say so. She pretended not to notice his reaction to the conversation at all because everyone knew that Harry was close to Dumbledore. That was another reason not to say anything. She didn't want that gloom to be over him when he had something important he needed to do. “It will be strange without you there, you know...” [/blockquote]

Harry decided to leave it at Shalie's vague reply because the more he thought about it, the more he didn't actually want to know who was going to replace Dumbledore. There was no one better for the job and Harry was going to keep his memory alive by pretending, for as long as he could, that Dumbledore was not being replaced this year.
So he said nothing about her first comment and honed in on the second, lifting his head from between his legs to smile sadly at her. "It will be strange not being there" he agreed. "I feel bad for the first years who will never know Hogwarts the way it's supposed to be."

Shalie was somewhat startled because she hadn't let herself think too much about the first years lately. It was too sad, because she could remember the wonder and happiness she'd felt in the castle during her first year. Even if eventually people had picked on her and she knew the 'bad' side of the school, she still remembered it as the best thing that had ever happened to her. “The ones that will experience it under their rule and the ones that should be able to attend but can't now,” she said softly. It was quite depressing really. “I... well, those of us that are there can always try to help out the new kids.” She went quiet for a second. She didn't want to go back to school but didn't want to be home without her father, and she really had nowhere else to go. At least at school she might be able to make things a little better for someone... Who that was, she didn't know, but she didn't intend on letting the suffering hold all the time. She'd have a stroke a month into the year! “I don't know how well that will work, but... it's a start, isn't it?” she looked at him questioningly. [/blockquote]

OOC: I'm gonna start wrapping the thread up since summer is ending on the boards
Harry nodded in agreement. The poor first year muggleborns wouldn't even get to go and attempt to learn anything under the new ruling. "Helping them out is a noble cause but...just don't get yourself in any serious trouble" he begged. He hated the idea of his closest friends back at the school getting themselves tortured or, worse, killed. He knew that there would be several attempts at usurping the death eaters, mostly by gryffindors, and the thought made his stomach crawl.
The twins were loping back over the hill's crest by this point, looking far less cheery. George gestured to Harry. "Mum says you need to come eat something and get ready for the Delacours who-"
"-Aren't even coming until tomorrow" Fred finished with a grouchy sigh.
Harry stood up reluctantly.

Shalie frowned. She knew that she had to go, and that Harry needed to do whatever he had to do in preparation for the wedding, but she couldn't help but feel sad that she needed to return to her house. And, of course, that it was the last time she would see Harry in a while. If ever again. She gave him a hug suddenly before he could even think of going. “Alright, well, good luck with the wedding!” she said in a bit louder of a voice than she'd intended. She knew that it was nerves and trying not to show emotion, but it was still embarrassing. Mostly because there was company. She bowed her head quickly after. “I know... I mean, I should go... I'll see you...” Saying this seemed to upset her more. But before she could let it get to her too much, and before it was too obvious, she just turned to leave. Goodbye was a hard word to say. She wondered if she'd ever say it again.

Harry was totally thrown off guard by Shalie's hug and he just stood there, kind of frozen, which put identical grins back onto the twins' faces. He gave them a 'oh shut up' look and just managed to give Shalie a quick hug in return before she was pulling back, appearaing to be embarrassed. She started rambling about leaving and wishing them good luck with the wedding and then she was practically sprinting in the opposite direction without even a proper goodbye, though Harry understood why. Saying goodbye in these days was a touchy subject. You never knew if you were just saying goodbye for the time being...or forever. The End
